Growth Mindset
When we learn, we all learn differently. We learn in different paces. Some of us learn faster than others. All students have different mindsets. We can't really help that, that's just how our brains are made.
According to the article, "Growth Mindset", by Carol Dweck, "We found that students’ mindsets—how they perceive their abilities—played a key role in their motivation and achievement, and we found that if we changed students’ mindsets, we could boost their achievement. More precisely, students who believed their intelligence could be developed (a growth mindset) outperformed those who believed their intelligence was fixed (a fixed mindset)." A fixed mindset is a type of mindset where some children or students can't learn. They just can't. A growth mindset is a type of mindset where children or students push themselves to become better.
In other words, If you are motivated and are determined to achieve something, you will learn and will have the ability to do so. Growth mindset students are more likely to become successful because they are pushing themselves and up to new challenges, where as to fixed mindset students are usually stuck on one way of learning and not really up to challenges.
Carol Dweck also did some research and found that a student can be both, fixed and growth mindset. I believe I am a little of both. Sometimes I think I got it, I'll do my work but a lot of times, I'll give up and decide not to do it, just because I don't get it or i'm lazy at times. I wish I was a growth mindset student, but a lot of times I'm scared to try new challenges or new ways of learning and doing things, just because I feel like I'll only learn by doing it the same way I learned to do it from the beginning.
